I am Emma Sumner of Clarity Studios, based in the UK.
My studio is named after my precious homebred warmblood mare Clara (aka Clarity)
I am a self taught artist. After a riding accident in 2012, where I fractured my wrist and parts of my spine, I came across the model horse hobby when I wanted some cm models of my own horses, not being able to afford the stunning artwork, I then decided I would give it a go myself. (not so successfully initially!)
For a few years I offered semi realistic one of a kind hand made/painted pet sculpts of peoples dogs, cats, rabbits and rats, then in 2017/18 I shifted to work on primarily custom manes and tails on resins and breyers, I specialise in intricate braids in apoxie sculpt - although my books are currently closed to commissions.
I have painted very few pieces, although I do enjoy painting in oils, pastels, acrylics and watercolours - I am too picky and take too long so I stick to sculpting for the most part.
In 2020 I decided to shift to original sculpted horses of my own after a few years of trying just about every clay and scale out there - I took the plunge in September to teach myself zbrush - and I LOVE it!
It allows me to endlessly adjust without ruining anything previously done, it opens up possibilities for multiple versions of each sculpture from different manes and tails, to different expressions/poses or even multiple scales - i wish I had tried it earlier!
